Having an autistic brother showed me that everybody can learn, no matter their situation. Becoming a teacher was a way that I was able to assist children in learning in whatever way possible. My interest in special needs ranges from autism to dyslexia and I enjoy learning new concepts, vocabulary and accessing or creating resources to help further my own learning and that of my students. I’ve taken this role further this year by working as an after-school tutor 3 nights per week.
I also have a high interest in implementing technology to allow students to succeed and iPads have revolutionised the way I teach in the classroom, in particular QR codes and voice recording technology to enhance oral language skills. I believe that technology should enhance pedagogy and I’m a strong advocate for creating as opposed to consuming when it comes to best practice for our students.
